LSU Karbi Anglong, Aoyimti village, LVSU celebrate jubilees

Lotha Students Union Karbi Anglong (LSUKA) Borlengri celebrated its Silver Jubilee while Aoyimti Village Dimapur and Longkong Village Students Union (LVSU) celebrated Platinum Jubilees on January 6 and 7. 

Advisor Horticulture and Border Affairs, MhathungYathan graced the LSUKA celebration programme as special guest at Borlengri. 

Speaking on the occasion, Yanthan congratulated the union and appreciated the pioneers for their contribution and sacrifice towards the union. 

Focusing on the theme, “honoring the past, envisaging a new tomorrow”, the advisor encouraged the students to cherish the memories and not to waste their golden period. He also encouraged them to work hard and learn to manage time and focus in their career.  

Highlighting on the importance of preserving cultural identity, Yanthan said it was important to preserve one’s mother tongue as it was the root of culture. On the border issue, the advisor said that for peaceful coexistence between the two communities (Karbi and Naga), the issue needed to be discussed through dialogue. 

Also, speaking on the occasion, Karbi Students Association (KSA) president, Thangsing Timung said that some hindrance taking place on the border was due to the failure of the central and the state government. He further said that “Karbi and the Naga people have a long history and were connected in blood, which is the reason we need to understand that we are not enemy but friends and from the same ancestors”.

Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Diphu chairman sports and youth welfare development board, Phenpiga Rengma in his speech congratulate LSUKA for reaching the milestone. Regma reiterated that although “we may have lots of issue, it can be resolved through dialogue”. 

Short speeches was also delivered by LSUKA founding president, LSUKA president, Dimapur Lotha Students Union (DLSU) president, Lotha Hoho chairman, Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) chairman and Lotha Hoho Dimpaur (LHD) chairman. 

Highlights of the programme included unfurling of union flag followed by blowing of trumpet, welcome song by Mon Bosti Lotha youths and a minute silence in remembrance of the departed soul.

At the celebration programme, release of jubilee souvenir and dedicatory prayer was offered by Bor Lengri Lotha Baptist Church (BLLBC) Rev. Arhonthung Odyuo.

Aoyimti Village: Aoyimti Village Dimapur platinum jubilee celebration was held at the village playground, under the theme “Nükrangdong” (roughly translated as centre of attention or admiration). 

Addressing the gathering as guest speaker, I Toshitsungba Aier IPS (Retd) stated that Jubilee was a time of introspection of what we have done in the past years and a time to look forward for what should be done in the future. 

He said though Nagas have left head hunting era, were now into money hunting era where Nagaland had become a land scarcity of truth.  

He added that Nagas should pray to have only one government instead of several. 

Meanwhile, messages of NLA speaker, Sharingain Lonkumer and Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, Rajesh Soundrarajan were read out by members of the planning committee. 

In his message, Longkumer stated that Aoyimti village had progressed from a distant village compromising of not more than 30 families, to a modern, educated and developed village, not only in terms of households, but in terms of contributions towards socio-economic indicators in the development of Dimapur as a district and cosmopolitan. 

He urged the villagers to commemorate the jubilee celebration as a special occasion to celebrate victory against illiteracy, poverty, absence of school and primary health facility, etc., and to collectively progress forward in all fields. 

DC Dimapur also shared jubilee greetings to the villagers, and hoped that the village would set an example for others to follow in all welfare and developmental works. 

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Chubatemjen Lemtur and Temsujungla Ozukum, and invocation offered by pastor, ABA, Temsu Jamir. 

Short speech was delivered by president, Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur, Meren Nokpu, and welcome address delivered by chairman, Aoyimti Village Council (AVC), Imnukluba Jamir.  

Highlights of the programme included cultural song by Watsu Telen Aoyimti Village, a play by Dreamz Unlimited and release of Jubilee Souvenir by editorial board.  

LVSU platinum jubilee: Minister PWD (Housing & Mechanical) Tongpang Ozukum graced the platinum jubilee celebration of Longkong Village Students Union (LVSU) as special guest on January 6.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister encouraged the gathered students’ community to strive for all round education maintaining that there were thousands of Nagas, who were educated but not disciplined, cultured, well-mannered and sophisticated. 

“This is a vital factor why young educated Nagas find difficulties in finding employment in their chosen professions”, the minister added. Ozukum also encouraged them to pursue their quest for knowledge diligently as the world has become very competitive for employment. 

“Competition has become very tough for employment both in private and government sector but meritorious students will be always honoured and chosen”, he stated.
