To facilitate active participation of voters during the elections, 12th National Voters’ Day (NVD) was celebrated Tuesday under the theme, “Making elections inclusive, accessible and participative” across Nagaland.
Longleng: National Voters’ Day was celebrated at the Conference Hall of DC Longleng wherein DC and District Election Officer (DEO) Longleng M. Shayung Phom spoke on the significance and importance of observing the day.
According to DIPR report, the DC said every voter needs to understand why to vote, whom to vote and the benefits of their voting rights to bring social change and development.
Phom urged the voters to be resolute, committed and take the right decision to elect qualified and efficient leaders and contribute in the Nation Building through their franchise.
At the programme, ADC and electoral registration officer Longleng, D. Robin lauded the two best Block Level Officers (BLOs) for their dedication and devotion in their additional assignment and effort to have a genuine electoral roll.
Kohima: Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nagaland V. Shashank Shekhar termed voting as the central pillar of any functioning democracy adding that India has adopted the principles of Universal Adult Franchise since 1951.
According to DIPR report, the CEO said this while giving the perspective and introductory remarks during the 12th NVD celebration at Kohima town.
He said the National Voters’ Day was initiated in 2011 with an aim to raise awareness, maximize enrolment of new voters, encourage and facilitate the young voters to participate in electoral process.
Speeches were also delivered by DC Kohima Gregory Thejawelie; State SVEEP Icon, Kawimaningsiliu, Miss Nagaland and State SVEEP Icon for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), Ashe H. Kiba; special number was presented by Merry Jamir and presentation of awards (Kohima district) for best Booth Level Officer and Online Poster with Slogan Writing competition were part of the programme; Voters’ Pledge was administered by the CEO, Nagaland.
Mokokchung: Celebrating the Voters’ Day, a programme was held at the Conference Hall of Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC- Planning) Mokokchung.
According to DIPR report, at the programme, video footage of Chief Election Commissioner’s speech was screened followed by presentation of best BLO Award and felicitation of online essay competition winners and newly elected voters.
Administration of voters’ pledge was carried out by DC and District Election Officer (DEO) Mokokchung, Limawapang Jamir.
Tuensang: The National Voters’ Day was celebrated at Town Hall Tuensang in collaboration with Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Tuensang.
According to DIPR report, DD and District Election Officer (DEO) Tuensang Kumar Ramnikant spoke on the relevance of the theme, “Making elections inclusive, accessible and participative” and appreciated the idea of including people aged 18 and above as genuine voters.
He said that EPIC was not just an ID card but it assists the citizens in electoral process and its rights.
Short speech was delivered by district SVEEP icon Saotola.
The prize distribution for quiz competition and best performing BLO were also awarded during the programme.
Kiphire: The celebration programme was held at the Conference Hall of DC Kiphire with DC and District Election Officer (DEO) Kiphire, Wati Aier.
According to DIPR report, the DC urged the citizens to maintain clean election for rapid development of the society and state, and to choose clean candidate, good candidate and visionary leader. The special guest also administered voters’ pledge; additional deputy commissioner & ERO, Rahul Mali delivered the keynote address.
Noklak: District Election Officer (DEO) office Noklak organised the National Voters’ Day at the Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Noklak.
According to DIPR report, DC and DEO Noklak, Hiazu Meru said National Voters’ Day was one of the important days in a democratic country which also marks the founding day of Election Commission of India.
He urged upon the gathering and the district people to create awareness and spread message to those who have reached the age of 18 years to enrol in the electoral roll.
While congratulating the awardees of BLOs, the DC stated that in an election process, BLOs plays an important role and to this, he requested them to continue their works sincerely.
SDO (Civil) & ERO Noklak in his welcome address congratulated all the newly enrolled voters in the district.
Wokha: District administration Wokha and District Election Office, Wokha organised the National Voters Day at the Conference Hall of DC Wokha.
According to DIPR report, emphasising on the importance of youth participation in Nagaland politics, district SVEEP Icon, Wokha, Lothunglo Z. Ezung opined that involvement of youth in Nagaland politics was vital for new breed of leaders with new vision and perspectives.
ADC, Wokha, Lankonsen Tsanglao felicitated the newly enrolled voters and handed over the best BLOs and online speech competition awards.
Phek: National Voters Day was celebrated at the Conference Hall of DC Phek with DC and District Election Officer (DEO) Phek Razouvolie Dozo as the guest of honour.
According to DIPR report, DC and DEO Phek said Indian being the largest democratic country in the world, every citizen of India has the right to choose the leaders for which we need to create awareness among the people/voters.
He said free and fair election should be conducted by maintaining equal participation. While congratulating new members for enrolling themselves, he called upon them to play active role in this venture.
The programme was chaired by EAC and AEO in-charge, Phek, Mechietsho Koza; significance of NVD was delivered by ADC HQ and ERO Phek, Phuleshe K. Yepthomi.
Pughoboto: Pughoboto sub-division celebrated National Voters’ Day at the DB Court Hall, Pughoboto. According to DIPR report, ADC & DEO Pughoboto, Thungchanbemo Tungoe while welcoming and congratulating the newly enrolled voters, urged them to take the EPIC as weapon to choose a good leader.
He also encouraged the BLOs to continue giving cooperation to the DEO, ERO, and AERO and the staff.
SDO (C) and ERO, Longasen Lotha briefed on the significance of NVD.
Chozuba: National Voters’ Day was celebrated at ADC’s Office Chozuba wherein Er. Omegali, EAC Chetheba chaired the meeting, ADC Chozuba, Theodore Yanthan delivered the keynote address and the best booth level officer was also felicitated, informed DIPR report.
LFIC: Livingstone Foundation International College (LFIC) celebrated NVD along with the DC and District election officer (DEO) Dimapur, Rajeseh Soundarajan.
A press release by LFIC stated that during the online programme chaired by ADC Dimapur H. Atokhe Aye, a message by the chief election commissioner was displayed. DC and DEO Dimapur Rajeseh Soundarajan also delivered a message and carried out voters’ pledge.
