Dimasa Kachari community celebrated Bishu festival, the post harvest festival at Dhansaripar and Bamunpukhuri village here on Thursday.
The celebration was marked with traditional games, ethnic shows and Bishu feast where all existing Covid protocols issued by the state government were followed. Highlighting the significance of the festival chief, Lobang Jingdung, said that Bishu was an important festival, celebrated by the Dimasa community with pomp and splendor.
He stated that Bishu-Dima is celebrated after the Jhum (harvest and cultivation) is completed and people pay their sincere thanks in the form of worship and offering part of the year’s cultivation to the Braisibraimadai (God) for peace of the human kind.
Short speeches were delivered by literary organization president-Devojit Naben, Dimasa public Organization (DPO) Monoharthousen and women society Donubala Naiding.
Earlier, at the programme welcome address was delivered by Bishu committee members, Hamrong Difoesa.
Meanwhile, Bishu committee of Bamunpukhuri village also celebrated the festival by organising traditional feast, games and sports, and cultural extravaganza.
The festival was graced by S. K. Khemprai (former president and advisor to KTCN) and Lothak Girisa, GB of Darogajan as chief guest and guest of honour respectively, with the host of GBs from neighbouring Dimasa villages.
Extending festival greetings, the chief guest highlighted the importance of festival and stated that was no date or time of starting/establishment of Bishu festival but began from the time of Brai Shivrai(Lord Shiva).
He also appealed to Dimasas Kacharis of Nagaland to continue celebrating Bishu every year.
The programme started with an opening prayer and welcome address by Roben Dimasa (GB) and Ratip Daulaguphu, president celebration committee respectively.
It was followed by cultural dance and festival songs presented by Dimasa Kachari Cultural Club.
