Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio Monday urged the North East Region (NER) states to utilize the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) to strengthen the distribution network and capacity building of DISCOMS and power departments.
Chairing the 22nd meeting of North Eastern Regional Power Committee (NERPC), in Guwahati on Monday, Rio said that the forum of NERPC was best suited for deliberation and fruitful resolution of inter-regional power sector issues.
As the chairmanship of the meeting rotates between the states of NER, this time, the meeting was held under the chairmanship and guidance of Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio.
Taking to twitter, Rio, on behalf of the NER states, thanked the Centre for its support and implementation of various projects. He said Nagaland government will set up several hydro and solar power projects. Rio also said that new inter and intra state transmission lines will be taken up.
The meeting was attended by the power ministers NER states along with the higher management of various central and state power utilities.
At the meeting, matters such as North East Region Power System Improvement Project (NERPSIP) of Government of India, expansion of transmission networks, expansion of reliable communication, development of hydro plants etc. were discussed. Convener and member secretary of NERPC meeting B Lyngkhoi said that north east region was blessed with huge hydro potential, which needed to be harnessed.
He also apprised the forum that high scale upgradation in the transmission networks was necessary for evacuation of hydro power from the region.
The technical issues were initially taken up in the technical coordination committee (TCC) meeting of NER on March 26, 2022 under the chairmanship of Chief Engineer (T&G), Department of Power, Nagaland, Penrithung Yanthan. The recommendations of TCC have been referred to NERPC forum for the final ratification/approval. Along with the discussions on various issues, the upcoming CERC/CEA regulations were highlighted to the members of the forum.
With close coordination among the members of NER power utilities, the region can take stride in driving both economic and social prosperity of NER people.
