SAYS WITHDRAWAL DOESN’T MEAN WITHDRAWAL OF DEMAND FOR JUSTICE
Konyak Union (KU) has clarified that temporary withdrawal of non-cooperation against Indian security forces announced by Eastern Nagaland People’s organisation (ENPO) did not mean withdrawal of its demand for justice.
Mentioning that partial lifting of Armed Forces Special Powers (AFSPA) from Nagaland was not delivering justice as demanded by the Konyak civil society organisations (CSOs), the union in a statement also warned that if there was delay in delivering justice to the victims of December 4 and 5, 2021 killings by security forces as demanded, they would resume the non-cooperation and the onus would lay with the government, adding that justice delayed was justice denied.
Asserting that that the Konyak CSOs had not compromised their demand for justice as put forth before President Ram Nath Kovind of India, KU reiterated that they would steadfastly adhere to the decision to pursue the case until the justice was met.
It also reiterated the three-point demand – booking all personnel of 21 Indian Para troopers involved in the killing of 14 innocent civilians and punishing them under civil court, making public the action taken and complete removal of AFSPA from all North Eastern States.
KU explained that the withdrawal of non-cooperation was to restrain any adverse development vis-à-vis law and order situation in the region. But while placing trust and confidence upon the people’s authority, it stressed that the people’s demand should not go in vain.
Maintaining that declaring non-cooperation was an expression of people’s sentiments, the union cautioned that the temporary withdrawal should not be taken as granted.
The union also questioned the government why action had not been initiated since Special Investigation Team (SIT) report on the incidents had already been submitted.
The union insisted that action should fast-tracked to deliver justice as demanded by the people and as assured by Inspector General of Assam Rifles (North) Maj Gen Vikas Lakhera on February 7 this year at the conference hall of deputy commissioner’s office, Mon.
