After certain apex tribe hohos questioned Naga Public Action Committee (NPAC) for calling a 6-hour statewide bandh on January 14, it has clarified that it was formed in June 2022 solely for the purpose of putting public pressure on the negotiators– the Centre, NSCN (I-M) and WC, NNPGs– to expeditiously conclude the negotiations into solution.
In a statement, NPAC pointed out that the tribal bodies and civil society had unanimously formed NPAC even as some have now begun to denounce it with prejudice. NPAC said during the last six months of its existence, it remained an open book for the public since it started with transparency and that all its activities were without any hidden agenda, but only in the best interest of the people of Nagaland.
NPAC also expressed confidence with the progress of negotiations between the Centre and Naga negotiating parties for the fact that, whatever was negotiable and whatever was not, had been made transparent and there was no more confusion. It also claimed that the Centre had paved the way for solution.
The committee also cited the reaffirmation of NSCN (I-M) and the WC/NNPGs to further strengthen their September 14,2022 “Joint Accordant” at their joint meeting on January 14, 2023 : “Since the ‘September Joint Accordant’ of 14th September, 2022, the NNPGs and the NSCN have agreed to form the ‘Council of Naga Relationship and Cooperation’ led by the Convenor of NNPGs and the Chairman of NSCN to explore, at the earliest, realistic ways for Nagas to move forward on the basis of Naga historical and political rights.”
The above resolution was adopted at a joint meeting in Dimapur signed by NSCN (I-M) chairman Q Tuccuand WC, NNPGs convener N Kitovi Zhimomi.
NPAC therefore wondered what else was required to be done then what had been mutually agreed upon?
NPAC said it found resolution no. 2 (urging both overground and underground Naga political groups to “come together” for an amicable political solution at the earliest) of eight tribal hohos in particular “to be primitive”.
NPAC maintained that if a tribal hoho or any facilitator had a positive attitude, no punctuation was supposed to be interjected directly or indirectly so as to upset the progress of development.
The committee said it expected all right thinking groups and individuals to become transparent and be bold enough to spell out what they stood for without camouflage. NPAC said if such groups or individuals were for solution, then they should say so and also if they were against solution, they should be open without inhibition.
NPAC clarified that it wanted to keep the records straight to realise at whose behest, solution was being sabotaged, since nothing was more important to Nagas than the political solution. NPAC further declared that it remained committed to give its unflinching support to any group or organisation working for pragmatic solution.
