Agencies mandated to curb use of money-power in election

With the announcement of the schedule for the general election to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly 2023 by the Election Commission of India (ECI), the mandate for curbing use of money-power and various forms of inducements in elections have been vested with several enforcement agencies both central and state.
In a press release, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nagaland V Shashank Shekhar informed that the Income Tax, Government of India, have formed surveillance teams, air intelligence units (AIU), rail intelligence unit (RUI) and set up 24×7 Control Room for the purpose of effective monitoring of election expenditures of the candidates and for curbing the use of black money during the election process.
CEO informed that 24×7 Control Room-cum Complaint Monitoring Cell has been set up at and Camp Office at Circuit House, Kohima. Public could register complaint on the electoral malpractices to 24×7 Toll Free Numbers at the control rooms at Dimapur (18003453889) and Camp Office Kohima (18003453878).
Airport, railway station, hotels, farm houses, hawala agents, financial brokers, cash couriers, pawn brokers and other suspicious agencies/ persons likely to be used for movement of unaccounted cash during election process would be kept under close surveillance by the Income Tax Department, CEO informed.
