Nagaland: State-wide exercise of checking government vehicles on road in Kohima

In view of the polling process which will be held on February 27 and in order to strictly enforce the Model Code of Conduct during the election process, the Nagaland Police led by the Director General of Police and all senior officers conducted a two-hour state-wide exercise of checking all government vehicles on road.
A press release from PHQ Kohima informed that the exercise was necessitated by inputs that some elements may either be using government vehicles or private vehicles with fake government number plates or stickers like “On Election Duty” to vitiate the election process.
“The exercise was conducted in all the districts of the state wherein all the senior officers of Nagaland Police along with SST, FST and CAPF officers also participated. This exercise was conducted to avoid and prevent misuse of any government vehicles for violation of the Mode Code of Conduct”, it added.
During the exercise, besides some minor seizures, one government vehicle of a senior officer which was being used as a flying squad for the election process was detained for carrying unaccounted cash of Rs. 5 lakhs for which the public servant could not give any satisfactory explanation.
Besides the above, Rs. 1.5 lakhs was seized at Chazouba and 975 kgs of areca nuts and few other seizure of IMFL were reported during this exercise.
After following the due procedure, the seized cash was handed over to the Election Expenditure Monitoring Committee, Kohima.
During the exercise, many government vehicles of senior officers of the state/central government were checked including the escorts accompanying Special Police Election Observers en-route to Mokokchung. The Special Observers also appreciated the state-wide exercise.
The department conveyed its appreciation and gratitude to all the government officers for facilitating and cooperating during the exercise.
The release also said that the Nagaland Police shall endeavour to implement the Model Code of Conduct without any prejudice. This exercise will continue till the election process is over so that the elections are held in a free and fair manner, it stated.
