Villages along the stretch of NH-702D (Mrg-Mkg road) have served a 15-day ultimatum on the state government to repair the road, particularly the stretch between Tzurang River and New Camp. In a joint statement, convenor of concerned villages Lendimenba, village council chairmen of– Chungliyimsen, Japu, Satsukba, Aphuphumi, Merayim, secretary Changki village council, convenor AWC association Mangkolemba and secretary Mokokchung to Mariani Road Side Village Concern Forum expressed anguish that the MRG-MKG road had been left neglected for the last 15 years and their repeated plea had fallen on deaf ears. They said that road condition, especially between Tzurang river and New Camp, almost impossible for small/light vehicles to ply and that the route was the only lifeline through which all materials including essential commodities are transported to three districts– Mokokchung, Zunheboto, Tuensang and other adjoining areas. Therefore, the villages said that they were left with no option but to serve an ultimatum on the concerned authority to repair the road within 15 days from the date of this ultimatum. In the event of failure, they villages warned that no vehicles would be allowed to ply through the said road.
