Minster for Women Resource Development and Horticulture, Salhoutuonuo Kruse urged the students to take up internships during summer and semester vacations to explore, acquire and augment skills and hands on experience as they provided gateway to the market and the growing industry.
She was speaking at Japfu Christian College 27th Fresher’s Social 2023, at JCC Indoor Stadium on Thursday. The minister Kruse said that the New Educational Policy (NEP) was trying its best to align between the curriculum and industry. She encouraged the students to take maximum advantage of the opportunities proved by the college towards innovation, growth and excellence at the same time emphasized as college was an investment for their future.
With the present job market at a very competitive status, Kruse urged the young minds to focus beyond their degree and percentage and encouraged on taking up vocational courses and skill-based courses and not only rely on the government jobs.
The minister urged the students to be more sincere and work consistently towards achieving their goals and also acknowledged the efforts of the college’s initiative towards the “The Orchard Campus” where 700 plus fruits were planted.
The first lady minister also inaugurated the first Naga Traditional Cuisine (NTC) Lab at the college premises. As per the skill emphasis of NEP 2020, the college was initiating Naga Traditional Cuisine as part of its Skill Enhancement Course under Nagaland University, wherein the main dishes of the 15 indigenous tribes of Nagaland are studied, cooked and analyses for retention and transmission of Naga food as part of cultural identity. The college is also attempting to draw the food map of Nagaland as part of its research interest and also noteworthy that in its meagre 16-acre campus, the college is preserving many indigenous fruit trees and also other seasonal fruits that are compliant to its environment.
Food skills, food security and climate change are some concerns that are taught alongside the regular academic curriculum at Japfü Christian College.
Earlier, Merangchand and Kelekono Chase were the comperes for the event, DSM, Dr. A. Husca offered invocation, welcome note by principal, Dr. Visakhono Hibo, while speech was delivered by Dr. Akho Yhokha. Speeches on behalf of the Alumni Achiever, SDPO Jalukie, Peren, Lunso, T show by the BA 3rd semester, Mutsolu Z Lohe delivered a speech on behalf of the fresher’s and vote of thanks by Mezhuvi Thorie.
