In a significant move to rectify and detect long-standing proxy teaching practices, advisor of School Education and SCERT, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, announced that the state government would introducing Teachers Attendance Monitoring System (TAMS) in the state.
He said this while speaking at the foundation stone laying programme of Gamadi Vidya Bharati School new building, Dhansiripar on Saturday.
Addressing concerns over the opaque statistics related to teacher shortages and their subject-wise distribution, especially at the primary level, Yhome mentioned that there has been no concrete data available until now. However, he said this was about to change, with the education department soon releasing a comprehensive list. This list will not only give clarity on the actual number of teachers in service but also provide specific data on subject-wise distribution, he added.
Of the 1,939 schools registered within Nagaland, the attendance system is currently undergoing a pilot project. The system, which is authorized through biometric details, is expected to be fully operational by next year. An encouraging feature of the software is its capability to function even in areas with no internet service, thanks to its real-time inbuilt feature designed to ensure seamless operation.
Yhome said: “We acknowledge and are grateful for the teachers who’ve dedicatedly served irrespective of their posting locations. We hope this new system motivates more educators to sincerely and effectively commit to this noble profession.” He believes that the system would enhance the transparency of the teaching community and ensure genuine educators are recognized for their dedication.
Additionally, there’s been a notable shortage of Hindi teachers in the state, a concern Yhome addressed during his talk. Referring to the 2020 National Education Policy (NEP), he stated that the qualification bar for Hindi teachers has been raised. However, he assured that not just Hindi, but clarity on the distribution of teachers for all subjects will soon be unveiled.
Accurate representation of educators which has been a matter of concern for long, Yhome says this new system promises transparency, recognition, and efficiency.
Earlier, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome laid the foundation stone of the new building of Gamadi Vidya Bharati School (GVBS) Dhansiripar. He emphasised on the transformational power of education and how education provides knowledge, skills, and training, and also indulges new ideas or thoughts and attitudes among the youths of the society.
Yhome also stressed on the multilingual society of Nagaland and revealed the need for Hindi language teachers and the pursuit of another Hindi institute in collaboration with the government of India.
He expressed gratitude to Vidya Bharati chain for establishing three schools in Nagaland and the donors from Gujarat and the leaders from Vidya Bharati on the introduction of quality education in the state.
He also said that the government was putting effort in supporting primary to high school education and the gap Vidya Bharati fills to elevate quality.
At the event, speeches were also delivered by village council secretary Dhansiripar K Naben, CEO & founder Yotta agro venture Pvt ltd Rituraj Sharma and special guest Vidya Bharati National assistant organizing secretary Yatindra Kumar Sharma.
