Awareness on dengue and JE at Peren

In view of the increasing number of suspected dengue and Japanese Encephalitis (JE) cases in the district, the National Center for Vector Borne Disease Control (NCVBDC) Peren, conducted several awareness campaigns in the district.


A press release by District Media Officer, CMO Office, Peren, Shekho Sophie, at the awareness campaigns and seminars Vimekhrie U Metsieo, Consultant NCVBDC Peren stressed on the importance of malaria elimination, the role and responsibilities of the public.


Vimekhrie also sought public cooperation for successful implementation of the activities in the district. She also shared data on the disease trend across the country, Nagaland, Peren district and current year detection of 4 JE and 3 dengue confirmed cases besides many symptomatic cases prevailing in the district.


District Vector Borne Officer Peren, Dr. Hedungkiebe shared key messages on various occasions concerning with vector borne diseases that were affecting the communities and its preventive measures.
Talking about the prevailing dengue outbreak, Dr. Hedungkiebe emphasized that prevention was the only and most important step since there were no specific medicines or vaccines at present to cure the diseases and prevent serious illnesses.


He requested the public to pay attention to various awareness activities for controlling communicable diseases because “Prevention is better than Cure”.


Besides IEC & BCC activities carried out in various places on detection JE and dengue cases, mass awareness was conducted at Ngwalwa town and Gaili Village on September 16; St. Xavier College on August 18, Jalukie main town area on September 14 and seminars on vector borne diseases with leaders from 5 churches at DVBO Office Jalukie on September 14 and 6 churches at DH Peren on September 15.
