MoS to attend launching of central scheme

Union minister of state (MoS) for animal husbandry, dairying, and fisheries, Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, arrived Nagaland Saturday morning to attend the launching of PM Vishwakarma Yojana for traditional artisans and craftspeople at Kohima on Sunday.


The main launching of the scheme would be done by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi at India International Convention and Expo Centre, Dwarka, New Delhi at around 11am. The new scheme intends to provide recognition and holistic support to the traditional artisans & craftsmen working with their hands and elementary tools, so as to improve the quality, scale and reach of their products and also to integrate them with MSME value chains.


Speaking to reporters after arriving at Dimapur airport, the MoS informed he had been sent to Kohima to attend the launch of the Vishwakarma Yojana. Asked about his plans to visit Peren district, the union minister said that he would be visiting the district to assess schemes pertaining to his ministry. MoS is also likely to call on the governor of Nagaland, La Ganesan.

Asked about the benefits of the scheme, which would be fully funded by the Centre with an outlay of Rs 13,000 crore, the MoS disclosed that the scheme was aimed at uplifting the economically disadvantaged, who he said holds a special place in the Prime Minister’s vision. The scheme would provide support to artisans and craftspeople of rural and urban areas across India.
