The third edition of Tokhu Emong Open Badminton Championship 2023 organized by Wokha District Badminton Association on the theme “Smash for Unity” commenced on October 31 at Indoor Stadium, GHSS Wokha with president Wokha District Football Association, Samuel Ezung, as the special guest.
Speaking at the programme, Ezung encouraged all the participants to exhibit good sportsmanship saying the theme, “Smash for Unity” was too apt for the situation as it relates to their Tokhu Emong festival. He also said, “to become a good sports star, one has to follow certain rules and regulations like the first is obedient, second is dedication, third is daily practise and the last is never lose hope (confidence).
Stating that WDBA is enjoying one of the best infrastructures in Wokha town, Ezung appealed the WDBA officials to include the youngsters in the coming tournaments as they were their future and maintained that through working together, the sports fraternity can create more platform to the younger generation in the district by helping one another.
The special guest also declared the tournament open. This years’ event has only three events offered due to lack of woman participants in the districts – senior men’s singles, senior men’s doubles and veteran doubles. The champions for these events will take away a running trophy with cash prize and certificates sponsored by OSD, Transport Department, Myingthungo Ababe Ezung and chairman Tsungiki Village Council, Janthungo Kikon.
The programme was chaired by Ovungbemo Ngullie from WDBA, prayer by assistant youth director, Khonken Patton, welcome address and felicitation by president WDBA, Dr. Jonsuthung Kithan and special number was presented by Nchumbemo Patton.
