KU Kohima remembers victims of Oting massacre; NSF observes ‘Black Day’

Konyak Union Kohima on Monday marked the second anniversary of the December 4 Oting incident by organising a short remembrance programme at the Konyak Morung, Naga Heritage Village, Kisama. The event began with a moment of short silent prayer. As a mark of respect, Konyak men, clad in their traditional accorded a gun salute by firing from their muzzle loading guns.
On December 4, 2021 13 innocent civilians were killed in a botched operation by the Army’s Special Operations Team of 21 Paras and another person was killed in Mon town on December 5 in the aftermath of the Oting incident.
NSF: Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) observed “Black Day” in remembrance of Oting incident and to demand repeal of AFSPA in Naga Homeland at Naga Club Building, Kohima on Monday. In his presidential address, NSF president Medovi Rhi, reminded of the 14 innocent civilians massacred by the Armed forces, which he said can never be forgotten.
Asserting that Nagas have forgotten the brutal killings of the Oting incident, the NSF president reaffirmed the stand of the federation with regard to the non-cooperation extended to Indian armed forces.
In his solidarity message, NSF tribunal general Kegwayhun Tep recalled the Oting incident and also the “atrocities and bloodshed meted out to Naga brothers by the armed forces.”
Stating that Oting incident would never be forgotten, Tep reminded that justice has not been served to the victims even today.
At the programme, NSF representatives paid homage to the victims. The programme was chaired by NSF assistant general secretary Kenilo Kent while assembly secretary Mhalevilie Medoze offered invocation.
