Kohima Tsüswüzu Students’ Union (KTSU) celebrated its silver jubilee under the theme, “Bridging Generation”, at State Academy Hall, here on Tuesday. In his address, special guest, former MLA and chairman, Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency, Nüzota Swüro estimated that people from Tsüswüzu (Chiesezu) had been living in Kohima for the past 100 years.
He said Tsüswüzu youths should bear in mind that people from Kohima village had facilitated in the migration of people from the village in olden times by providing them with government jobs. Speaking on the theme, Swüro said people within 20 to 30 years were grouped together as a generation and therefore during such a duration many changes take place which often becomes barriers between the generations. He said with the advancement in technology and the impacts of social and political issues often contribute in shaping the perspectives of people living in different generations respectively.
Swüro observed that there had been rapid and tremendous progress in recent times which was unmatched earlier. “The advent of Christianity, educational institutions and enlightenment has reformed the whole of Nagas. We embraced the changes without hesitation and is thus undergoing through drastic remodeling,” Swüro said.
Even before becoming Christians, Nagas were known for being honest, hardworking and hospitable and although they followed animism no one worshiped stones or trees.
He said although Christianity had increased the moral values of the people, the latter should not give up their good qualities and habit which were well known and practised in their daily lives.
Observing that younger people were slowly detaching from their traditions he urged them to boldly don their attires and follow the good habits followed by people in the past.
Earlier the jubilee souvenir was unveiled by associate professor, Kohima college, Vezhosa Ringa while greetings was conveyed by principal, GHSS Jotsoma Phezhü, Azinu Swüro.
The programme was chaired by executive director, CWWS, Nezelü Nyekha and invocation pronounced by sr pastor, CCRCK Upper PWD, Rev Zhowhuyi Nyekha.
KTSU president, Zhokhahi Sasü delivered the welcome note and first president of the union, Pokhotso Nyekha shared a brief history of KTSU. Special numbers were presented by Akhrülü Nyekha & friends and Besüto Nienu while KTSU vice president, Er Vethito Nyekha proposed the vote of thanks and chairperson, Women Fellowship, CCRCK Upper PWD, Angoilü Nienu pronounced the benediction.
