Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio asserted that the collective desire for peace among the Naga people has led elected members, irrespective of their political affiliations, to support an oppositionless government in order to pave the way for solution to the decades old Naga issue.
Speaking as the chief guest during the inauguration of Sechüma Mechü Zie (playground), Sechüma approach road, and the foundation laying ceremony for the Mera-Sechü-Rau complex at Sechü (Zubza), located 19 km from the state capital, Rio emphasized that Nagaland was currently in dire need of development, a sentiment strongly felt by the people as well as the elected members who have joined hands to address the pressing developmental needs.
Rio acknowledged the challenges faced in the past due to the Naga political issue but noted that progress has been gradually occurring in recent years with relative peace.
He highlighted the correlation between peace, productivity, and economic improvement, emphasizing the positive impact peace has on society.
Commending the villagers for contributing land for infrastructural development, particularly the playground, Rio expressed hope that such gesture would nurture the youth and encourage excellence in sports. He urged village leaders to unite, be honest, and commit to progress, utilizing development funds effectively for the benefit of the people.
Rio lamented the challenges posed by ineffective leadership, emphasizing the importance of united efforts for the overall progress of the state.
He acknowledged the shift from a war culture to unity through sports, stating that sports and games were integral to the future and pride of the people.
He pointed out that through sports, numerous youths at the global level were achieving wealth, recognition, and acclaim not only from their fans but from people worldwide.
Rio, therefore, encouraged the youth to lead obedient lives, trust in God, and work hard to excel in their chosen fields. He also announced the upcoming Nagaland Olympic and North East Olympic events to be hosted in Chümoukedima and Dimapur.
He emphasized the need for the state to nurture athletes with medal prospects, highlighting that this investment in sporting talent is crucial for preparing a competitive bid to host the National Games in Nagaland. Rio highlighted the uniqueness of Naga culture and festivals, emphasizing that they are celebrated collectively through the Hornbill festival. He noted with pride that this celebration has gained global recognition, attracting thousands of tourists to the state each year.
Rio also lauded the people of Western Angami constituency for producing pioneers in various fields, including the first woman legislator and minister in the state. Earlier, the chief minister unveiled the monolith for the new playground and laid the foundation stone for the Mera-Sechü-Rau Seyie Complex site at Sechü (Zubza).
In her brief speech, minister for Horticulture and Women Resource Development, Salhoutuonuo Kruse, expressed happiness at the village’s infrastructural developments and encouraged youths, especially women, to be independent and self-reliant.
She expressed the hope that the new playground would serve as a space to nurture the youth. She also informed about various schemes designed for youths, particularly women, aiming to empower them, foster independence, and prevent abuse at any level.
Kruse also inaugurated the Sechüma approach road under MGNREGA.
The program was chaired by secretary Sechüma Mechü Krotho, Neidilhoutuo Sechü, prayer was pronounced by senior pastor Sechüma Baptist Church, N Toulie Sechü while welcome address was delivered by chairman Sechüma village council, Petekhrietuo Nipu.
Elderly blessings was offered by Cacha Meyatsu, a short speech was given by BDO RD Block, Sechü (Zubza), Neikerünuo Rutsa while vote of thanks was proposed by president, Sechüma Mechü Krotho, Bikho Zhünyü. Special numbers were presented Sechüma Youth Organisation and Sechü (Zubza) Youth Organisation.
