The Lok Jan Shakti Party (Ram Vilas), Nagaland state unit, has declared its intention to field a candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state. LJP (RV) working president and chairman of state parliamentary board, Viloto Pukhato informed Nagaland Post that the decision was made during the party meeting held on February 10 and as per the directives from the national head office.
Clarifying queries on whether this decision implies a withdrawal of support for the NDPP-BJP alliance, Pukhato affirmed their continued support. He emphasized that the decision to field a candidate was not to oppose any specific party in the state.
He asserted that the party, with its two sitting MLAs in the Assembly, supports the Rio-led NDPP-BJP alliance in the state. This decision aligns with LJP (RV) being an alliance partner of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre.
“The Party needs to maintain its identity and party principle and maintain its status quo. Moreover, at the confidence of the people of Nagaland, we would like to voice out the interest of the common Naga people,” he said.
While emphasizing the aim to advance the party’s agenda in the state, Pukhato refrained from disclosing the candidate’s identity at this stage. Meanwhile, sources revealed that the party has already selected its candidate, with an official announcement expected soon.
