The Nagaland Foothill Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) has expressed profound appreciation to chief minister Neiphiu Rio, PWD (R&B) minister Kaito Sema and the entire members of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) for a fruitful debate and allocating Rs 148.5 crore for the foothill road construction during the last Assembly session.

NFHRCC convener Supu Jamir, general secretary W Lemba Chang, co-convener Hokiye Yepthomi and assistant general secretary Chenithung Humtsoe said they were also grateful to the Public Works Department, Road & Bridges for the technical input provided to the NLA during the deliberations.

They appreciated the state government for keeping its commitment on the Foothill Road construction, which was initiated by CSOs and endorsed by apex tribal hohos in 2013 with prayer and fasting, acknowledging that during the last 11 years, the state government had generously invested Rs 100 crore. They also appreciated governor La Ganesan for keeping his commitment to follow up with the authorities concerned, based on the NLA resolution adopted in September 2022 during the NFHRCC team meeting him in October 2023.

Stating that they had also apprised Development of North-eastern Region (DoNER) minister G Kishan Reddy in New Delhi in December 2023, they thanked Rajya Sabha member Phangnon Konyak for writing a letter to the ministry concerned, the apex tribal hohos for their unconditional support to the committee.

They reminded the state government of the urgency felt by the general Naga people for the road for their economic development. They further urged to the PWD (R&B) and the district administration to reiterate their early notifications, refraining mining of stone gravels/boulders within one km both up and downstream to safeguard the longevity of the Doyang bridge.

They announced a coordination meeting with all PWD (R&B) divisional executive engineers on March 9, 2024 at 11 am at the NFHRCC base office, Khermahal, Dimapur and urged all esteemed members to attend the meeting positively.
