On receiving several complaints from many landlords and business establishments, the Joint Council Forum (JCF) of NST Colony, Churches Colony, and Middle Point, Dimapur held a joint meeting on April 17, 2024 and resolved to express its strong disapproval and condemnation towards the proliferation of random unions and associations within our jurisdiction.
A joint statement signed by JCF convener Pikato Chishi, co-convener Benjongwati Ao, secretary Omega G. Naga, jt. secretaries– Daniel Haihing and Moatemsu Imsong and Info. & publicity secretaries– Tekatemjen, Ezanthung Kithan and Kihovi Zhimomi slammed the organizations, cloaked in fancy names, for unlawfully soliciting donations, monthly collections, and membership fees from our business community without any legitimate authority.
The signatories said the proliferation of multiple taxations extended beyond Naga Political Groups (NPGs), encompassing numerous donations and collections by various organizations that only burdened both businesses and the public. They urged upon district authorities to consult Colony Councils, and also demand vigilance against endorsing those fraudulent unions and associations.
The signatories said the unchecked presence of these organisations in Dimapur District exacerbated confusion and distress and thus, warranting immediate action. Additionally, they said advised CSOs against pressuring authorities to recognize such entities.
They strongly warned all entities to cease such activities within the Councils’ jurisdiction failing which swift legal action would be taken. The forum said the detrimental impact of these groups include unjust burdens on businesses and residents, inflated prices, and chaos in Dimapur District. Also such unchecked proliferation foster illegal taxation, disrupting peace and order they added.
The signatories urged upon businesses and residents to report suspicious activity to the Joint Council and unite to eradicate unlawful behaviour so as to safeguard community well-being. Further they declared that all No Objection Certificates (NoCs) previously issued to such unions/associations stand cancelled.
