The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted fairly widespread to widespread, light to moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorm & lightning & gusty winds over Northeast region.
In its bulletin on Thursday, IMD said fairly widespread to widespread, light to moderate rainfall accompanied with isolated thunderstorm & lightning & gusty winds (40-50 kmph) very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura during next five days.
Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura on May 5-6 and isolated heavy rainfall over Sikkim on May 5, it added.
IMD mentioned that the rainfall is likely due to a cyclonic circulation that lies over northeast Assam in lower tropospheric levels. Strong southwesterly winds from Bay of Bengal to North East India are prevailing at lower tropospheric levels, it said.
Meanwhile, IMD said that India’s Northwest, parts of the East and the southern peninsular region are likely to witness twice as many heatwave days as normally witnessed in May.
