Wokha exports first

Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFBs) of oil palm, the first from Wokha district, was flagged for Godrej Agrovet Limited (GAVL) Processing Mill in Mizoram on May 23 by director of agriculture, M Ben Yanthan at APMC Compound Wokha.

A press release by the agriculture department informed that the consignment was the first “Buy-Back” of FFBs by GAVL for the year 2024 and the first oil palm harvest for Wokha district.
Addressing a gathering before the flag-off ceremony, Yanthan said the department was “practically experiencing the fulfilment of the pre-conditions laid” in terms of “Buy-Back”. He said the fulfilment of the condition was a “Red Letter Day” for oil palm farmers and the department as well.

Yanthan spoke on the importance of continuing to honour the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the state government and GAVL on January 9, 2023. He highlighted the gathering of nurseries at Jalukie and Niuland.

Yanthan also lauded the GAVL for their sincere efforts in fulfilling the objectives at the earliest.
Later, the department officials and staff also had an interactive session with regard to the ongoing “Buy Back” initiative.

The flag off programme was attended by joint director of agriculture (NMEO-Oil Palm), Z Hukhato Sema, and District Agriculture Officer (DAO) Wokha, L Sunep Pongener.
