Joint committee organizes cleanliness drive at Doyang river

A joint committee comprising the administration, police, DDMA, Forest department, Fishery department, Water Resource Department, and NEEPCO Ltd organized a cleanliness drive on June 8 to clean the waste accumulated at Doyang River.
Deputy Commissioner Wokha, Ajit Kumar Ranjan, emphasized the significance of the Action Plan Mission to clean the Doyang River, calling it a vital social initiative. He urged the local community to raise awareness about waste management and assured that the department is committed to ensuring the mission’s success. DC called on villagers to assist in developing an action plan, actively participate in the cleanliness drive, and provide assistance in whatever way possible.
DC noted that the cleanup effort would take two to three days, describing it as a short-term solution while working on long-term strategies. He highlighted the importance of preserving the Doyang river, terming it one of Nagaland’s most valuable assets, and urged the community to take responsibility for its maintenance.
Addressing concerns that the area falls under NEEPCO’s jurisdiction, he clarified that while NEEPCO generates power, the local community benefits significantly from the river. Thus, he called for collective ownership and efforts towards the village’s betterment. Chairman and representatives from various villages in the area also participated in the meeting and expressed their gratitude towards the department and the various stakeholders for contributing to the river’s cleanliness.
On the first day of the cleanliness drive, waste and debris such as logs accumulated in the river were removed. An excavator (JCB) was stationed at the site to aid in the cleanup efforts.
Meanwhile, various departments mentioned the need for additional manpower and invited individuals to in volunteering for the cause to contact any of the officials to join the cleanliness drive.
