NDPP has welcomed the statement of the Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Union (ENLU) on the issue of the demand for Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) by the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation.
Appreciating ENLU’s statement for being factual and honest, NDPP in a press release declared that it endorsed the stand and appeal of the union, clearly stating that the ENPO issue should not be politicised nor used for exploitation for political mileage.
The ruling party appealed all sections to work collectively in the greater interest of Naga society so that they could all work towards unity and oneness, stressing that all should refrain from issuing immature statements and avoid attempts to exploit the sensitive issue for short term political gains.
The party assured that the state government under the mature leadership of chief minister Neiphiu Rio was making all possible efforts to ensure that the issue was resolved as early as possible in a manner that was beneficial and acceptable to the entire Naga family.
Pointing out that the state government had made it categorically clear that it supported the aspirations of the people of Eastern Nagaland and had even recommended the institution of an autonomous body so long as the unity and integrity of Nagaland was protected, NDPP said it had on the same lines also supported and endorsed this recommendation of the state government.
NDPP appealed the democratically-elected representatives of the eastern region and mass-based civil society organisations (CSOs) to carry out consultations and deliberations so that the best way forward could be formulated, wherein there was teamwork and shared responsibility.
The party urged the elected representatives and CSOs to sit across the table, discuss the hurdles collectively and formulate methods that would ensure that the aspirations of the people were collectively addressed.
Appreciating the stand and efforts of the state government and ENLU, the party reiterated support for the aspirations of the Eastern people to achieve their developmental goals within the united Naga family. It noted that the early resolution of the issue through the democratic process of consultations, transparent deliberations and collective responsibility under a spirit of unity and oneness was the desire of all sections.
