Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Dimapur organised Kisan sammelan and release of 17th instalment of PM Kisan Scheme programme on Tuesday. Senior Scientist cum Head KVK Dimapur Dr. Phool Kumari, in her inaugural speech, welcomed the dignitaries and farmers. She also expressed her gratitude for selecting KVK Dimapur from Nagaland to launch the programme.
A press statement by KVK Dimapur informed that the head, ICAR Nagaland centre Dr. Homeswar Khalita, spoke about the significance and usefulness of PM Kisan. In his speech, he stated that agriculture is the backbone of the society which enables the farmer to achieve livelihood and nutritional security. The launching of the scheme is timely and will enable the farmers to mitigate debt trap.
District Agricultural Officer, Chumoukedima, Bodevi Shuya also highlighted the benefit of the scheme and urged the farmers to update their information for availing benefits of PM Kisan.
Joint Director, Directorate of Agriculture, Kohima, Medovilie Ladu in his brief speech highlighted the genesis of the scheme and applauded the Government of India for launching the scheme. He also stated that 1,96,913 farmers from Nagaland has been shortlisted to receive the scheme benefit. Of these, 1,52,605 farmers shall be receiving the financial assistance today’s DBT transfer. He also urged those farmers who have not been shortlisted to update their KYC and APC details to avail the benefit in the later stage.
Director, ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun, Dr. Girish Patil gave an overview of the agricultural scenario of the country as well as of Nagaland. He emphasised on the practice of integrated pest management and integrated nutrient management for sustainable farming. He requested the farmers to go for value addition, branding and marketing of the agricultural produce in the state. He also stressed the farmer to make plan for best use of the money received through discussion with the scientist, technical and officers of ICAR, KVK and Line departments. Farmer representatives from Chümoukedima, Dimapur and Niuland districts, in their speech applauded and thanked for launching the scheme benefiting the farmers.
The inaugural session concluded with formal vote of thanks delivered by SMS (Agril. Extension), KVK Dimapur, Divya Sree. Later the farmers as well as the dignitaries attended the live telecast programme of the interactive session presided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Altogether, 277 farmers from Chumoukedima, Niuland and Dimapur districts along with Scientist, technical, officers and representatives from ICAR Nagaland Centre, ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Department of Agriculture, KVK Dimapur, VFA Training Institute, SAS, Medziphema participated in the programme.
