Incessant rain damages paddy fields at Chessore

Incessant rain

Landslides and floods triggered by incessant rain continued to wreak havoc in Chessore area under Shamator district. According to a DIPR report, Chessore-Huker-Y. Anner valley, known as the rice bowl for Yimkhiungrüs, was badly hit by natural disaster.

The report quoting the village council stated that river bed area from Huker village, Chessore village to Y. Anner Village was affected since April 19, 2024 with almost 60% of paddy fields swept away. The incessant rain since June 30 last has damaged the remaining paddy field and swept away completely.

Almost all the paddy irrigation field from Langa-ke River to Chessore River was badly damaged by the floods. The incessant rain also triggered landslides and mudslides with reports of road blockage at various locations in the region.


Road from Tuensang and Shamator via Y. Anner Village and Shiponger Village, the lifeline of Chessore, was also affected. The Müksük-Ke Bridge, which was constructed by Chessore village under MNERGA fund, was also at the verge of collapse. The belly bridge between Shiponger and Leangkonger village, which was constructed under PMGSY, was also badly damaged.


The village council chairman of Y. Rikhum Y. Anner village has appealed to the responsible department to reach out to the people affected by the disaster. Chessore village council chairman Zhelo also appeal to the district administration, NPWD, SDRF and all responsible departments to extend assistant to the Chessore area public and offer immediate relief to those effected villages. The village council also appealed for clearance of road block caused by the landslide.
