Advisor for Urban Development & Municipal Affairs Zhaleo Rio appealed Union Minister for Housing & Urban Affairs Manohar Lal to provide the state’s urban local bodies (ULBs) with one-time special grants-in-aid as they had missed development opportunity for a long time due to absence of elected bodies.
Attending a review meeting chaired by Manohar Lal in Guwahati on Tuesday, Zhaleo Rio informed Lal that Nagaland had recently conducted elections to the ULBs successfully with women reservation after a gap of 20 years
He also requested Lal to launch special scheme for the hilly north-eastern states to cover urban roads, landslide protection, drainages and footpaths. The adviser appraised the Union Minister on the status of the various missions and programmes of the ministry implemented by the state government.
He informed Lal that Nagaland had also participated in the Incubation City Competition, which would be the first planned city in Nagaland and create job opportunities for the youth. This was stated in a press release. Officials of the Urban Development & Municipal Affairs Department also attended the meeting.
