Strive for excellence

Nagaland governor La Ganesan has encouraged the graduating students of Oriental College, Kohima to strive to make positive contributions to the community and the nation, saying their sense of duty towards their country would be reflected in their actions, whether big or small.


Speaking at the Oriental College’s first graduation ceremony for the batch of 2021-24 here on Saturday, Ganesan reminded the students were as they received their graduation certificates, they were being recognized for their academic achievements and the commitment they had shown to their education.


He said this was a moment of great pride for them, their families, and everyone who had supported them in this journey. “As you step into the world, remember that your education is a tool not just for personal success but for the betterment of society. Your integrity, honesty, and empathy will define you in your personal and professional endeavours,” he said.


The governor further reminded that in a world, which often faced ethical dilemmas and challenges, it was essential to hold onto their values. He said that integrity and honesty were not just moral imperatives, but also the cornerstones of trust and respect in any relationship or organization.


Ganesan said that hard work and perseverance were critical, but they should always be accompanied by a sense of empathy towards their fellow citizens and a spirit of patriotism towards their country.
He encouraged the students to understand that their actions have the power to impact others, and strive to make positive contributions to their community and their nation.


As they venture into their future careers and lives, the governor encouraged the students to carry with them the lessons learned at Oriental College and continue to strive for excellence, uphold their moral and ethical principles, and work toward the common good.
He maintained that Oriental College stood out not only for its academic rigor, but also for its emphasis on instilling discipline, moral, and ethical values.


The governor also said that the college promotes the diffusion of knowledge and seeks the personal advancement of its students, regardless of caste, creed, community, or social status.
Earlier, college principal Dr. Khrieliezhünuo Dzüvichü delivered the welcome address while CRC Kohima Village assistant pastor Vizotuonyü Suokhrie gave invocation.


Others who spoke included Kevikhrunyü Kiso, on behalf of the graduating students, and Menuotuolie James Yhome, recipient of the Best Graduate Award. On the occasion, Neishekhonuo Thami, Tenyidie subject topper Nagaland University, was also felicitated. A special performance was presented by Hopong and Senti and Dziizienuo and vote of thanks was proposed by students’ welfare dean Chubanenla Imchen.
