NSCN (I-M) reaffirms stand on ‘unique history and sovereignty’

NSCN (I-M) on Tuesday vowed that it would leave no stone unturned “to protect and defend the unique history and sovereignty of Nagalim”, stating that Nagas have had enough of being betrayed time and again.
In a statement issued through its MIP, on the eve of ‘Naga Independence Day’ (August 14), the NSCN (I-M) asked both India and Myanmar to cease their alleged acts of “betrayal and colonizing of Nagalim and conclude an honorable political agreement with the NSCN and Nagalim.”
During the negotiations, NSCN (I-M) said that the unique history and sovereignty were officially recognized through the Amsterdam Joint Communiqué of July 11, 2002, and the Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015. These agreements, the group contends, acknowledge the Indo-Naga issue as a political conflict and affirmed that “Nagalim is never of India or Myanmar (erstwhile Burma) as the case may be.”
NSCN (I-M) also reaffirmed its commitment for “this national decision when Naga plebiscite was held on 16th May, 1951; boycotted the Indian sponsored election two times and rejected the Indian and the Myanmar (erstwhile Burma) constitution.”
MIP said that the celebration of ‘Naga Independence Day’ underscores the ongoing struggle for independence from post-colonial powers, reflecting the Naga people’s determination to achieve freedom. It also said that this day signifies the rejection of India’s independence on August 15, 1947 and also symbolizes their rejection of colonial rule over Nagalim.
Meanwhile, the NSCN/GPRN extended revolutionary greetings to Nagas worldwide and other struggling nations, marking the day as a historic celebration of freedom from colonial powers. It also criticized the Government of India for not handling the Amsterdam Joint Communiqué and the Framework Agreement, in the manner desired by the Naga people.
