All Nagaland Pre-service Teachers Association (ANPSTA) has expressed disappointment over the delay in recruitment of primary teachers, saying ever since B.Ed and D.EL.ED were made mandatory for teachers, primary teacher posts have not been advertised.

ANPSTA through its media cell stated that since 2016 no open recruitment had been made for PT post till date. The association expressed disappointment at the school education department for “insincerity” and “lackadaisical attitude.”

Unless the department has “ill intention” to deprive the employable rights of the trained unemployed teachers through open means, ANPSTA said eight years was more than enough to hold on without open recruitment.

Stating 100-180 primary teachers were retiring annually, ANPSTA questioned whether those vacant posts have already been filled or the department was “planning to hold on without any open recruitment in order to celebrate its silver jubilee.”

The associations said that establishment of NSSB brought a ray of hope for educated unemployed aspirant particularly the diplomas holders of different professions other than D.EL.ED trainees. The pre-service teachers said posts of their counterparts such as Hindi PT, drawing teachers and physical teachers have already advertised twice or thrice in NSSB. However, it termed as “very unfortunate” that not a single post of primary teacher had been advertised till date.

The association reminded the department that 15% of DIET trainees have already crossed age limit and 20% were on the verge of crossing age limit. Therefore, in the events of recruitment of primary teacher posts in the future, the ANPSTA has appealed to the department for consideration of age relaxation as eight years have gone without any recruitment.
