A four-day, seminar on substance abuse for students and youth organized by Zeliangrong Youth Organization Nagaland (ZYON) under the theme, “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life,” commenced on Tuesday at St. Xavier’s College in Jalukie.
On the second day of the seminar on Wednesday, addressing the students as special guest, Dr. Tsielhoutuo Rhutso, MLA, emphasized on the vital role of students as the ambassadors of Nagaland.
He encouraged the students to embrace a sense of responsibility in shaping a bright future for themselves and their communities by staying away from substance abuse.
Dr. Rhutso also expressed concern on the alarming rise of substance abuse among the youngsters and advised the students to be aware of it. He informed the students that “overcoming addiction is not an insurmountable challenge if they possess determination and willpower”.
Highlighting on the financial burden of substance abuse, Dr. Rhutso said by refraining from drugs, a significant amount of money could be saved that could be spent on savings or investments.
He further thanked ZYON for organising the event and termed it as an important for today’s society.
Words of encouragement were shared by president of the Zeliangrong Students’ Union Nagaland (ZSUN) and president of Zeliangrong Students’ Union (ZLSUN) Kingsalt Hegwang. Earlier, the program began with an invocation by Rev. Dr. Mongzeung Mpom and concluded with benediction by Giluanang Pamei, pastor of RBC Jalukie Town. The program is also organised in Peren and Tening.
