Nagaland: Schools celebrate Children’s Day with fun filled activities

Schools across the state commemorated Children’s Day by celebrating the birth anniversary of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru on November 14. The celebrations included various activities such as games, dance programmes and cultural events.
ARPS Kma: Assam Rifles Public School (ARPS), Kohima, celebrated the day by organising various activities. To mark the day, the students embarked on educational and recreational outings to Khonoma Green Village.
A vibrant fancy dress competition for young students was conducted at the school, where students showcased their creativity and confidence. The celebration concluded with the distribution of prizes and certificates to the winners of the fancy dress competition, followed by cultural program performed by the students.
AR: In celebration of the day, Assam Rifles (AR) organized a lively “Run for Fun” event for students from various schools in Pungro Town, Kiphire district. The event witnessed an enthusiastic turnout, with over 1,000 students’ participation.
The race featured separate categories for boys and girls, with prizes awarded to the first, second, and third place winners in each category, recognizing their efforts and sportsmanship. On the occasion, AR also informed on the upcoming Half Marathon in Shillong, set to take place on November 24, encouraging students to embrace a culture of fitness and health.
DLSA: District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) under the aegis of Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) organized Legal awareness programmes to commemorate Children’s Day.
Tuensang DLSA celebrated children’s day with Government Primary School Upper Khel Tuensang Village C/ Khel. Herola, Panel Lawyer Tuensang DLSA spoke on the significance of Children’s Day and Antimangyang, Retainer Lawyer Tuensang DLSA dwelled on sexual abuse offences and rights of victims. The program was attended by students and Teaching staff. Longleng DLSA observed the day at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidhyalaya (KGBV) at Namching Village.
A Mane Phom, retainer lawyer shared the message emphasizing the importance of “Right of children to free and compulsory Education” and also addressed the basic rights of a child.
Altogether 30 students attended the programme.
Zunheboto DLSA celebrated the day with the children of Mt. Carmel Home at Sukhalu village.
Cheliam Khiamniungan, JMFC/Secretary Zunheboto DLSA shared the history and significance of Children’s Day and highlighted the basic rights of the Children with emphasis on education. Tovi Z Yeptho, Deputy Legal Aid Defence Counsel educated the children what child abuse. Mon DLSA commemorated Children’s Day in collaboration with Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Mon with over 600 students from class 11 and 12.

Chief Judicial Magistrate/Secretary, Mon DLSA B.Peter Resu, spoke on Right to Information Act (RTI), 2005 emphasizing the need for transparency and significance of understanding legal and constitutional rights. Angun Konyak enlightened the audience about the initiatives and activities of the District Legal Services Authority and shed light on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
Shonwang Konyak, Additional Public Prosecutor, elaborated on the legal rights of individuals. On the occasion, Wokha DLSA visited Special Juvenile Police Unit at Wokha Police Station.
Nino Iralu, chairperson WDLSA spoke on various acts relating to children.
Gunlinlan Tungning,OC Wokha Police Station welcomed the team and panel lawyers Shanchobeni P Lotha, Jacob Kinon and PLVs participated in the programmed and highlighted on the NALSA helpline number 15100, Childhelpline number 1098 and Women helpline number 181.
Kohima DLSA visited Destitute Home, Kezieke Kohima headed by its secretary Kohima DLSA cum Chief Judicial Magistrate Wokono Yhoshü. A short briefing of Child Rights like Right to life, right to Education, right to food, right to protection and right to health-mental health was delivered by Nulhuvolu Rhakho panel lawyer KDLSA followed by video clips about Child Rights was shown to the members at Destitute Home.
Secretary KDLSA Wokono appraised the children to perform their basic duties with hard-work, patience and perseverance. Mokokchung DLSA celebrated the day at an orphanage in Shihaphumi village.
At the event, panel lawyer Mapujungla addressed several important topics, including bullying, the concepts of good touch and bad touch, as well as children’s rights. Watitemjen, a Retainer Lawyer, along with PLVs also participated in the celebration.
Meanwhile Dimapur DLSA on November 9 observed Pre Children’s Day on the theme Inclusion for every child at AV Hall, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Dimapur Hall. Secretary department of Social Welfare, Martha R. Ritse graced the event was special guest. Panel lawyer Moatila Ao highlighted about Legal Services Authority and spoke on POCSO Act.
BHS Tening: Baptist High School (BHS) Tening celebrated Cultural cum Children’s Day at New School premises. The event was grace by Asst/Comdt. Aystem Rai, 9 Assam Riffle Tening as a special guest.
UCHSS: Unity Christian Higher Secondary School (UCHSS) celebrated Children’s Day cum Cultural Fiesta at Diphupar local ground. The day was graced by Limathung Lotha, pastor, Lotha Baptist Church Diphupar, Dr. Yuireishang Phungshok, Pastor, Tangkhul Baptist Church Diphupar. Members of Diphupar Village Council and Diphupar Naga Student Union (DNSU).
Greetings message was conveyed by the education secretary (DNSU). The Managing Director of the school delivered the key note address followed by various cultural performance and games.
St. MHSS: St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Dimapur celebrated Children Day by organising a fancy dress competition for Cl-Nursery to Cl- 8 in the School, to commemorate the birth anniversary of the first Prime Minister of India, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. Children participated in the event with great zeal and enthusiasm. Children were showered with gifts and sweets and certificates were awarded to the winners.
GMS: Government Middle School (GMS) for Children with Special Needs, Kohima held Children’s Day and Prize distribution at its school premises with Assistant District Coordinator, District Mission Authority, Samara Shiksha, Kohima as special guest.
MGM HSS: MGM Higher Secondary School, Dimapur celebrated Children’s’ Day with great enthusiasm and joy on November 14 at the school premises.
Fr. Giju George in presidential address, emphasized the importance of education and character-building.
A series of captivating performances by the teachers including a fun star jump performance by pre-primary and primary teachers. The program also witnessed Pre- Primary and Class 1 & 2 Games and Sports prize distribution.
PVHSS: Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School, Dimapur celebrated the day with various fun filled activities. The programme included Universal School prayer, Songs and dances performed by the teachers.
