A series of transformative initiatives aimed at driving progress, inclusivity, and economic empowerment in Nagaland were launched on Wednesday at the IDAN Capital Convention Centre.

State chief minister Neiphiu Rio who graced the event as the guest of honour described the day as a proud moment, celebrating achievements that reflect the government’s commitment to empowering entrepreneurs, enhancing tourism, and advancing transportation infrastructure, terming it as a “milestone in the state’s development journey.”

Uracab: Rio inaugurated Uracab, Nagaland’s first app-based taxi aggregation service, offering seamless booking for tourists and stable income for vehicle owners. The service includes both four-wheeler and two-wheeler taxis, making transportation more accessible and affordable.

Describing Uracab more than just a transportation solution, Rio emphasized that the app-based taxi aggregation service bridges a critical gap in the state’s tourism and transport ecosystem by offering tourists a seamless booking experience while providing taxi owners with a stable and remunerative platform.

Rio highlighted the inclusivity of Uracabs, which integrates both four-wheeler tourism taxis and two-wheeler taxis, ensuring accessibility and affordability for all sections of society. This approach, he said, reflected the state’s commitment to leveraging technological advancements to benefit everyone.

Under the Nagaland Tourism Connect initiative, Rio also flagged off a new fleet of vehicles, including eight Tata 20-seater buses, two Tata Wingers, 65 Kia Carens, and 20 Toyota Innovas. These vehicles aim to enhance travel experiences while promoting Nagaland’s identity.

During the event, the Nagaland Logistics Connect initiative was also introduced, which offers a 12% manufacturer discount on vehicles used for commercial activities. Beneficiaries can avail discounts and subsidies via the Nagaland Credit Portal and the CMMFI, ensuring streamlined access to financial assistance.

Rio also highlighted Chief Minister’s Micro Finance Initiative (CMMFI) as a cornerstone of the state’s economic development, offering up to 42% subsidies on select vehicles procured for commercial use. Collaborations with manufacturers like Tata Motors, Kia, and Maruti Nexa ensure special discounts and create opportunities for local entrepreneurs.

Additionally, vehicle manufacturers committed to training local mechanics in BS 6 technology, fostering skilled employment across the state.

Digital Piggery Insurance Scheme: The state launched India’s first app-based Digital Piggery Insurance scheme, addressing challenges in livestock insurance for remote areas. Supported by Tata AIG and the IRDAI, the initiative simplifies claim settlements and reduces costs for farmers.

Rio also emphasized on Chief Minister’s Universal Life Insurance Scheme (CMLIS), which provides financial security against accidents or untimely loss for citizens of Nagaland.

Rio emphasized that today’s milestones– Ura Cabs, the expansion of the tourism fleet, capacity-building programs, and innovative insurance schemes—underscore the state’s commitment to fostering economic growth, inclusivity, and sustainability.

Meanwhile, Rio urged stakeholders to ensure that the upcoming Hornbill Festival exemplifies Naga hospitality and efficiency, creating unforgettable experiences for visitors.
Advisor to CM and chairman of IDAN, Abu Metha, stressed the importance of bridging developmental gaps and benefitting stakeholders across Nagaland.

He highlighted initiatives encouraging homestays, cold storage facilities, and innovation hubs, with a focus on sustainability in line with global and national trends. Metha also encouraged talented Naga youths working outside the state to return and explore creative and entrepreneurial opportunities at home.

Chief General Manager of SBI, Guwahati, S. Radhakrishnan lauded the opportunities presented through the Hornbill Festival, noting its collaboration with countries like Japan, Peru, Wales, and the United States.

He urged citizens to leverage Nagaland’s natural resources and cultural heritage through enhanced financial partnerships and to act as responsible consumers and customers.

Tourism minister Temjen Imna Along envisioned Nagaland at the forefront of national development. He encouraged citizens to adapt to modern advancements, take advantage of government programs, and actively participate in realizing a progressive Nagaland. Along also stressed the role of IDAN in fostering connectivity and driving aspirations.

State chief secretary Dr. J. Alam, expressed gratitude to the chief minister for his visionary leadership and highlighted the significant economic potential of Nagaland. He noted that the state’s GDP is growing at a rate of 6.5%, with per capita income rising by 11.2%. Alam underscored the importance of upskilling the workforce, particularly in the hospitality sector, to capitalize on these opportunities.

The event also marked the culmination of capacity-building programs targeting homestay operators, tour guides, tourist taxi drivers, and heritage interpreters. Financial assistance under the Chief Minister’s Universal Life Insurance Scheme (CMLIS) was handed over to beneficiaries.

In a symbolic moment, the chief minister launched a tourism directory booklet, further underlining the state’s commitment to building a robust tourism ecosystem.
