MRP issue: DSSU demands action against shop owner

November 30, 2024 | by admin

The Dimapur Sümi Students’ Union (DSSU) has demanded swift action by the authorities against a non-Naga shop owner accused of selling products without Maximum Retail Price (MRP) labels.

Terming this as a clear violation of consumer rights, DSSU president Okato Yeptho and general secretary Ighato Awomi in a press release demanded that the authorities take action to punish the accused and bring justice.

The union alleged that the shop owner had sold the product without MRP, which they termed as a clear evidence of fraudulent/forged case. They insisted that he should be booked and tried by the authority concerned.

Dimapur Sümi Students’ Union said it was found that he was not only charging outrageous amount, but also selling defective items and even the requests for exchange and return were never entertained.

They suspected that the accused had imported Chinese-origin goods without proper channels to evade government taxes, thereby causing revenue loss to the central and state governments, affecting all-round development. They stressed that a tax to the government was public revenue.

Acknowledging the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) for raising the matter, DSSU leaders asserted that they stood firm with the DNSU.

They warned that if the shop owner continued functioning in this manner, the DSSU under the umbrella of DNSU would take their own course of action and the administration would be responsible.
