Nagaland and Assam Statehood days were jointly celebrated at Raj Bhavan, Chennai, in the spirit of Ek Bharat Shresth Bharat, with enthusiastic participation from the residents of both states residing in Tamil Nadu on December 2.
A press release by, president, North East India Welfare Association Chennai, Wapangtoshi, informed that chief guest for the event, Governor of Tamil Nadu, R.N. Ravi, speaking on the occasion, urged students from both states studying in Chennai to acquire at least functional knowledge of Tamil language.
He also shared connection between people of Nagaland and Assam with Tamil Nadu regarding hospitality. He also recalled a narrative from a 102-year-old man from Nagaland, who shared how Nagas and Assamese have been good neighbors for generations, even exchanging their respective products through barter system, and sometimes keeping their belongings safely with their Assamese friends until they returned.
He also informed that Raj Bhavan Tamil Nadu partnered with University of Guwahati to conduct diploma course in Tamil language, aimed at facilitating the learning of Tamil for people from northeast who come to Tamil Nadu.
The release informed that Keviletuo Yano Richard from Nagaland and Gautam Deori from Assam were felicitated by the Governor for their contributions to their respective communities in Chennai for over a decade.
