Nagaland Post

To the Nagaland Forest Department

February 9, 2025 | by admin

There are certain issues with few hundred sandalwood trees I own that are of both species. I learn that there isn’t a lot of information (suiting our soil) available on non-native trees and seeds, such as Red and White sandalwood. Does Forest Dept. allow the cultivation of sandalwood? Do I need permission from the DFO? Who is going to buy it, and what is the price in the current market? In the early stages of the plantation, can a grower expect assistance from the relevant department? Although there are many sources on YouTube channels, I found them to be contradictory, ambiguous, and inconsistent. This variation, I assume, is related to geographic location and the influence of climate on particular region. The relevant department can employ a media that farmers are familiar with, such as Nagamese for optimal benefit, much like mainland India, where farm-related information is broadcast on local news channels.
