DNSU wants CM’s intervention on pressing issues affecting Dimapur

Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has sought the intervention of the state chief minister in addressing several pressing issues affecting Dimapur.

In a memorandum submitted to the state chief minister, DNSU president Hinoto P. Aomi and general secretary Michael Kath lauded the implementation of ILP in Dimapur, but said that the issue of unabated illegal immigrants persists.

The union has urged the chief minister to form a district task force comprising of civil society organizations (CSOs) to ensure effective enforcement of the ILP.

DNSU also appealed for operationalizing Science stream at Dimapur government college. DNSU said that science block, inaugurated in 2020, remained non-operational. Besides, the union also appealed for upgradation of Dimapur government college. With over 1,800 applicants vying for limited seats, DNSU stressed the need to upgrade and construct additional rooms to accommodate students.

The body also expressed concern over encroachment of government properties and random issuance of land pattas. DNSU claimed that many lands belonging to the government has been encroached by “unscrupulous people in cahoots with some government officials.”

It appealed for setting up a committee to collect reports from different departments and be submitted to chief minister’s office for necessary actions. On development of Dimapur railway station, DNSU reminded that Dimapur railway station has been selected under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and the work was slated to begin in March.

However, DNSU said that the issue of land encroachers remains. The union noted that most of the landowners were former government officials and former public leaders. DNSU appealed to the chief minister to settle those encroachment issues with iron hand so development was not stunted. DNSU has assured its “unwavering support” in addressing the concerns raised.
