Culvert collapse in Wokha

Heavy rainfall late night on February 21 led to the sinking and collapse of a culvert on a road, causing much inconvenience to residents of Wokha town.

The affected road — PWD-Zuvotong Colony (also known as the District Hospital Road) — is a key route connecting the District Civil Hospital to Wokha main town. The collapse has left the road completely impassable, severely affecting daily commuters and emergency medical transport.

The situation has been further aggravated by ongoing repairs on the High School-Molonsu Road, leaving residents with very few travel options. Commuters are now forced to take the deteriorated Bokajan Road or the longer Hospital-Longsa route via the national highway.

The closure has particularly impacted those from High School, Molonsu, Vungoju, and nearby villages such as Meriyan, Totsuyan, Yanthung, Pongidong, Tsungza, Khumtsu, Hankvu, and Longchum, who now face extended travel times and hazardous routes.

District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Wokha has assured the public that they relevant department had been contacted, and an inspection of the site was scheduled on Monday. However, the residents are calling for swift action from the authorities to restore connectivity and prevent further disruptions.
