As part of Jan Aushadhi Diwas, Rajya Sabha MP, S Phangnon Konyak, inspected Jan Aushadhi Kendra (JAK) at the District Hospital, Mon, in the presence of medical officials and party workers.
Jan Aushadhi Diwas is celebrated every year on March 7, to raise awareness about the scheme and promote the use of generic medicines. Under the scheme, Jan Aushadhi Kendras has been set up under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), a public welfare scheme, that provides quality medicines at affordable prices to the masses.
During the visit, Phangnon interacted with department officials to review a ground report on the functioning of the Jan Aushadhi Kendra and engaged with beneficiaries, encouraging them to avail the benefits of affordable generic medicines and hygiene products provided under the PMBJP.
Jan Aushadhi Kendras (JAKs) are part of the PMBJP, launched by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers, to make quality medicines available at 50% to 80% lower prices compared to branded medicines. In addition to essential medications, these government-run pharmacies also provide affordable sanitary napkins, ensuring women’s access to quality hygiene products.
Phangnon urged the public to spread awareness about this crucial government initiative through social media and other platforms, ensuring that more people benefit from the availability of high-quality, low-cost medicines through Jan Aushadhi Kendras.
Jan Aushandhi Diwas at District Hospital Dmu and NHAK
Jan Aushandhi Diwas was observed at District Hospital Dimapur and Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima (NHAK) on March 7.
On the occasion, District Hospital Dimapur medical superintendent, Dr. Keveduyi Theyo, said the day was observed to spread awareness about the scheme and promote the use and benefits of generic drugs.
Dr Theyo informed that though District hospital has been trying to run Jan Aushandhi Store, it has been unsuccessful, mainly due to lack of local vendors to provide quality generic drugs at nominal rates and due to lack of public awareness. He, however, assured that the facility will be restored to its optimal operating conditions, and ensures effective management and operation.
Chief Medical Officer, Dimapur Dr. Temsu Longkumer, also highlighted on the scheme.
The programme was chaired by Dr. Sentirenla Jamir, Nodal Officer, Jan Aushandhi, District Hospital Dimapur and the invocation prayer was led by Chaplain, DH Chapel Dimapur.
NHAK: The day was observed at Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima (NHAK) with special guest, Neikhozo Soukhrie, chairperson Kohima Municipal Council and the same was observed at UPHC Seikhazou with special guest, Khrielievi Chüsi, member.
