NU Mass Com Deptt launches 2nd ‘MassCom Chronicle’

The Department of Journalism & Mass Communication (JMC) at Nagaland University, Lumami, officially launched the second edition of its departmental newsletter, “MassCom Chronicle”, in a special event held on May 6.


PEX/HOP of Akashvani Mokokchung, Habemo Ngullie, graced the occasion as the special guest and formally inaugurated the newsletter alongside faculty members and students. In his address, Ngullie highlighted the importance of such publications, describing newsletters as the voices of a community. He commended the department for its effort in fostering responsible journalism and professional communication.


“In an age where misinformation spreads faster than facts, the role of trained communicators and ethical journalists is more important than ever. This newsletter stands as a reflection of your commitment to truth, creativity, and professionalism,” Ngullie stated. He encouraged students to use their voices wisely, pursue meaningful stories, and stand up for the unheard.


Ngullie said “Every article you write, every story you pursue, has the potential to make a difference. Use your voice wisely, speak up for those unheard, and never stop questioning the world around you.”


At the event, Head of the Department of Sociology NU, Prof. Athungo Ovung, applauded the remarkable efforts of the Journalism & Mass Communication department. He described “MassCom Chronicle” as a testament to the vibrant academic participation within the university and praised students for their dedication, energy, and relentless effort in its creation.


In his concluding speech he said that initiatives like this give platform for sharpening skill and confidence. Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Nagaland University, Peter Ki, touched upon the challenges of misinformation in the digital age, emphasizing the importance of distinguishing real news from propaganda. He praised the Journalism & Mass Communication department for becoming a vital human resource equipped with dedicated teachers and aspiring media professionals.


The editorial team, including Editor Tiakumla and Sub-Editor Idaizeule, shared insights into the production process, emphasizing how the newsletter strengthened their editorial and teamwork skills. They credited their mentors for guidance and expressed their hope that the publication would continue to grow and represent the voices of the department.


The launch event brought together faculty members, students, and esteemed guests to celebrate the newsletter’s milestone and underscored the significance of student-led media initiatives. The programme was chaired by research scholar Petekhrienuo Kulnu, with a welcome address delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Arjun Das. Research scholar Ayimba Jamir concluded the event with a vote of thanks.
