Minister for Power & Parliamentary Affairs, KG Kenye, inaugurated the 2.4 MW Duilumroi Hydro Electric Project at Poilwa village under Peren district on Friday. The project started in April 2021 was completed with a total cost of Rs. 40.29 crore.
According to a DIPR report, Kenye lauded power department officials starting from top to bottom as well as contractors involved in the successful completion of the project within a short period of time.
The minister also appreciated the two villages—Poilwa and Heunambe—for their cooperation and support towards the department officials and contractors that facilitated the completion of the project.
Kenye expressed gratitude to the state government headed by chief minister Dr.Neiphiu Rio for financially assisting the department with the necessary amount, which was needed all throughout the construction of the project.
In her speech, secretary (power), Asangla, said that for the sustainability of Duilumroi project, the catchment area should be protected and forest cover should also be maintained. The secretary has requested the department to sensitize and coordinate with the neighbouring villages and grow more trees.
She also requested the department to effectively run and manage the hydro project as a small model hydro project of the department. With the completion and commissioning of 2.4 MW Duilumroi project, she expressed hope that the department would be able to develop a small hydro project in the years to come.
Power department, chief engineer (T&G), Er. Kasho Chishi, said the project’s physical activities and construction started in April 2021 with a target of completing within 36 months. He said the project was technically commissioned on December 11, 2024.
He disclosed that the project was completed with a total cost of Rs. 40.29 crores under the State Plan. The chief engineer (T&G) thanked the state government, planning and finance department for the smooth flow of funds. He also thanked the project and transmission line contractors for completing the project on time.
In his short speech, retired chief engineer (T&G) Er. Penrithung Yanthan said the completion of the 2.4 MW Duilumroi SHP was a phenomenal achievement of the department of power.
He extended appreciation to the chief engineer (T&G) and his team for effectively monitoring the progress of the project. He also lauded the generation division and hydel division for their commitment and the contractors for delivering the quality work.
Further, he lauded the support and cooperation extended to the department by the villagers of Poilwa and Heunambe which helped the department in carrying out the works smoothly.
The inaugural event was chaired by chief engineer (D&R), Er. Nitovi A. Wotsa, while Baptist Church Poilwa Village pastor Kwedigwambe Zeliang offered the invocation. A brief technical report was presented by addl. chief engineer (civil), Er. Visakho Therie, while vote of thanks was proposed by addl. chief engineer (D&R), Er. R. Lobosang Jamir.
