Modern College hosts book launch for ‘Meraki’

Modern College held a book launch for Meraki, the debut poetry collection by Manong Wangshu, Assistant Professor in the Department of English, at the College’s Conference Hall on Friday.

The book, published by Woods Publishers, was released by principal Dr. Vitsou Yano. The event was moderated by Keneingulie, Assistant Professor, Department of English, and began with an invocation prayer by Grace Gonmei, a student of B.A. 2nd Semester.

A brief review of the book was presented by Watimongla Imchen, Head of the Department of English, who described Meraki as a powerful collection that gives voice to emotions often left unspoken. She praised the poet’s words for their quiet strength, saying they linger with the reader long after the final page.

Speaking at the event, author Manong Wangshu shared insights into his writing process and inspirations. He described poetry as “a mirror of the soul,” and explained how the collection reflects his experiences, solitude, and thoughts on society.

He said the book represents a private world that he has now chosen to share publicly. In her remarks during the official launch, Dr. Vitsou Yano expressed pride in the faculty’s creative achievements and encouraged students to embrace new opportunities.

She highlighted the importance of creative expression, stating that publishing a book is not just a personal milestone but also a meaningful contribution to society. She emphasized that reading helps expand knowledge and personal growth.

A poem from Meraki was recited by Rüülhouü Khawakhrie, a B.A. 2nd Semester student, after which the event concluded with final remarks from the moderator.
