Volunteers of \u201cThe Greensight Project\u201d planted ornamental tree saplings on the roadside of Mopungchuket-Milak road and also conducted a \u201criver clean up exercise\u201d from September 1-3. <\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cThe Greensight Project\u201d is a five-year scenic enhancement programme initiated by Mopungchuket students\u2019 union (MALT) under Mokokchung district. <\/div>\n
As part of the project, the volunteers had planted the saplings along 4 kms of the total 11 kms stretch of Mopungchuket-Milak road, newly paved under DoNER\/NLCPR scheme. Plantation along the remaining stretch of the road is slated to be undertaken during the next planting season.<\/div>\n
Volunteers also cleaned a stretch of the Waz\u00fck River by collecting and disposing non-biodegradable waste materials. As part of the project, MALT is to undertake cleaning of all the rivers<\/div>\n
under Mopungchuket territory. <\/div>\n
The Greensight Project was launched in July 2016 by Parliamentary Secretary of Geology & Mining, Dr. Imtiwapang Aier and will culminate in 2021.<\/div>\n
Further, MALT has invited interested environment groups and workers as well as eco-clubs of schools and colleges under Mokokchung district to participate in The Greensight Project\u2019s river clean up exercises. <\/div>\n
It also reminded that there is a standing order by the Mopungchuket<\/div>\n
Village Council banning use of chemicals and other hazardous materials while fishing in the rivers under Mopungchuket territory and that defaulters will be fined Rs.50,000.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
