NSF was reacting to NPCC’s allegation that Imkong L.Imchen, who was then education minister, had granted NBSE affiliation to all private schools in the four hill districts of Manipur in 2006 “much against the wishes and interests of Nagas of Nagaland”. A statement from NSF president Kelhouneizo and secretary education Chipakhuyi Rhakho said the federation was compelled to persuade the responsible authority to take immediate arrangements for 40,000 students from four hill districts to appear their examinations under NBSE after “Meitei dominant Manipur state cabinet’s decision” to forcibly impose ‘Meitei Mayek’ (Manipur Script) as a compulsory subject in all schools including private schools in Senapati, Chandel, Ukhrul and Tamenglong. “When the Manipur government is trying to distort the Naga existence in the name of promoting the Meitei Script, it is natural on the part of the Nagas to resist and defend our history, culture, language and our fundamental rights,” the NSF stated. It also alleged that “malevolence policy” of Manipur government was evidently displayed by board of school education, Manipur (BSEM), where some chapters attributed to Nagas were distorted and misinterpreted and was designed to undermine the “Naga nationality” and to glorify Meitei kingdom, completely denying the existence of Nagas and the diverse tribes living in Manipur. As such, the NSF said as part of its denunciation responded by demanding affiliation of all private schools in these four hill districts to NBSE. Asserting that the federation being a students’ organization was not in support or against any individual or party, the NSF members, however, cautioned individual, group or political parties not to take initiative of NSF in their fold and accuse each other in their own interest to tarnish the good image of the federation.

For More Updates, follow us on

 and

The NSF Thursday clarified that state government, as demanded by it, had made arrangements for students of four Naga inhabited hill districts of Manipur to appear examination under NBSE as a one-time arrangement.
