In a statement, Therie opined God has taken away the wisdom from Naga leaders for “the repeated sins” committed as in-dishonesty with the census, electoral roll, VDB house numbering, false billings, loot of public funds, fixing commissions to be deducted at source, enlargement of MGNREGA job card list, sharing of benefits from unjust means, black marketing of PDS items and killings of Nagas by Nagas in the name of “demanding sovereignty from India.” Underlying that corruption and dishonesty was a challenge to churches in Nagaland, Therie, pointed out that elections in Nagaland “are the most corrupted in the whole nation” where votes were openly sold. He said political bargainers claiming to have certain number of votes, demand money, vehicles and future from the aspiring candidates. He said though it may not be palatable all people know who responsible for the present situation by silently cooperating “for fear of death”. He said that unless “Nagaland people accept the truth, nothing can set us free.” Therie pointed to various clauses in the electoral law and opined that electoral evils could be tackled through use of Election Photo Identity Card as per the law. He urged the church to extend its cooperation in this regard as only “ a clean electorate” could provide a decent and “God fearing government.” He however regretted that the church’s disciplinary action was limited only to elopement and pregnancy . He said despite being aware of dishonest politicians and government employees acquired properties disproportionate to their known sources of income; the church instead gave them importance in church activities “thereby indirectly encouraging them.” Referring to the biblical story of the sin Achan which caused God to punish the Israelites and where Joshua had to order that Achan and his family be stoned to with his family and properties and livestock burned to cleanse Israel; Therie said “Naga leaders are no different” an illustrated Dimapur town as “ an open evidence of sin” with properties frequently changing hands. However, he said today repentance through Christ can obtain God’s forgiveness. He also compared the role of the church in Mizoram where its members don’t vote for those whose integrity was doubtful, He said in Mizorm election expense was less than Rs.10 lakh whereas in Nagaland it ran into crores of rupees. Further, he said even secular states like Tamil Nadu, corruption is not spared and even in other nations, people are against corruption and terrorism. He urged churches in Nagaland to “wake up to the reality” that people were praying for peace, unity, solution and future which can be provided by the state government “with the blessings of God” but added, the “state government is against your prayer”. He said if churches were sincere in their prayers, they should ask members not to violate God’s laws by not indulging in corruption and dishonest behaviour in government and private business. “If Nagaland churches really want God to answer the prayers; stone the corrupt and dishonest leaders by rejecting them in the election,” Therie added.

For More Updates, follow us on and

Former finance minister and Congress member K.Therie has lamented upon the current scenario of “confusions” in Nagaland in the search for political solution with divisions within Naga undergrounds, corruption and extortion both by lawful and unlawful “multi” governments and both legal and illegal organizations with all kidnapping and as assassinations upon people.
