Intending to focus large-scale attention on child Labour\u2019 and call for urgent action to combat it, a concert on the occasion of \u2018World Day Against Child Labour\u2019 on the theme \u2018Together for children\u2019 was organized by Community Educational Centre Society (CECS), Dimapur featuring Divine Connection which saw a huge turnout on Sunday evening at DDSC Stadium Dimapur.  Parliamentary secretary, housing, labour and employment, Er. T. Saku Aier, speaking on behalf of the labour department said, \u2018World Day Against Child Labour\u2019 came about due to human greed, and as a result of which, many children have been exploited all over the world and deprived of growing in a decent environment.  Children in this condition are exploited economically and are denied fundamental workers\u2019 right in spite of working till odd hours for a meager income without any break, opined Saku. He said children taken as domestic labourers have to leave their own family at an early age and are considered almost as \u2018possessions\u2019 by the household. He also underscored the Directive Principles of State Policy contained in the Part-IV of the Constitution where it lays down specific policy rules regarding child labor that the state shall provide free and compulsory elementary education to all children until the age of 14. Describing children future citizens of the country as well as the state, he said all these would depend on if they are brought up carefully and methodically with the task of providing the child proper education. Giving a clarion call to fight against the menace of child labour, Saku said the present government under the leadership of chief minister, Neiphiu Rio has taken initiative through various government departments to erase such social evils from the Naga society, and assured the department of labour would continue to support NGOs and organizations involved in fighting for the cause of exploited children.  Subonenba Longkumer, project director CECS, the organizer of the concert, urged the gathering to extend support to the society to make a change for the better and to help eradicate exploitative child labour.  (Cont\u2019d on p-7)  Those who spoke at the occasion include Dr. Helen R. Sekar, National coordinator, National Resource centre on Child Labour (NRCCL), ministry of labour & employment, govt. of India, Nungshiyanger Aier, jt. labour commissioner, Zekotso Mero, SP, Dimapur, Sedevikho Khro, ADC Dimapur, Yanger Aier, project director LD, Asono Ndang, DEO Dimapur, Fr. Anto, founder director, Peace Channel and Testimony (Child NDWM) Other highlights of the programme were songs by Divine Connection, Alo Wanth, Sunep Lemtur, Kenei, Menguse, dance performance by Funky Fresh Boys and play by CECS students.  The event was supported by department of labour, social welfare department and DMA, SSA (education department).  The event partners were Peace Channel, Sinai Ministry, National Domestic Workers Movement, and media partners Nagaland Post and The Morung Express. It may be mentioned that The International Labour Organization (ILO) launched the first \u2018World Day Against Child Labour\u2019 in 2002 as a way to highlight the plight of these children. The day, which is observed on June 12th, is intended to serve as a catalyst for the growing worldwide movement against child labour, reflected in the huge number of ratifications of ILO Convention No. 182 on the worst forms of child labour and ILO Convention No. 138 on the minimum age for employment. The \u2018World Day Against Child Labour\u2019 provides and opportunity to gain further support of individual governments and that of the ILO social partners, civil society and others, including schools, youth and women\u2019s groups as well as the media, in the campaign against child labour.   <\/p>\n
