Naga Mothers\u2019 Association (NMA) Wednesday demanded that NSCN\/GPRN to arrest \u2018ss\u2019 pvt, Worshim (Ashim) Tangkhul and \u2018ss\u2019 corpl. Ngalengshang Chahongnao within a week\u2019s time and hand them over to the police at a meeting held in \u2018gen\u2019(retd) VS Atem\u2019s residence at 5th Mile Wednesday. The two cadres are named as accused in the assassination attempt on the life of one of NMA\u2019s member, M. Imtila Jamir, (retd) registrar, cooperative societies Nagaland on May 27 at her residence in Kohima. The NMA memorandum addressed to Atem, convenor NSCN\/GPRN steering committee was handed over to Atem by NMA president Abei-u Meru on behalf of Naga Tribal Women Organization, demanded the arrest of the main culprit Worshim Tangkhul (still absconding) and his accomplice Ngalengshang Chahongnao, under the custody of NSCN\/GPRN to police immediately. Considering the magnitude of the heinous crime perpetrated on M. Imtila Jamir, a joint action committee consisting of Naga women from tribal organizations was formed to seek justice against armed violence. Further, NMA recalled the contribution of Naga Women for Naga National cause and said their role as peace makers and peacekeepers cannot be denied and underestimated, while demanding justice and accountability to ensure women right to security. National Commission for Women\u2019s NE expert, Rosemary Dzuvichu, Rosemary Dzuvichu, said the May 27 incident could not be justified by any means as various kinds of excuses emerge when such a crime is committed on women. She went on to add that the organization would not tolerate any kind of explanation from either the NSCM (I-M) the accused or the government of Nagaland. She said if no action was taken today, it would only encourage more crimes against women. Sumi Totimi Hoho Kohima, president, Kakheli Jakalu said the organization did not come to condemn but to seek the convener\u2019s help and unite over the May 27 incident so as to penalize the culprits. She said the culprits should be dealt with severely so that such incidents would not be repeated, She also urged the convener to \u201ccontrol\u201d his cadre. Kohima Wats\u00fc Mungdang, president, Dr. Watikala said women in Nagaland are raped and assaulted by people who claim to be from one faction or the other and which has emboldened criminals to indulge in various illegal activities. \u201cIf you control of your cadre, then the police will cooperate to catch the culprit\u201d, she added. In response, Atem expressed deep shame due to the action of his cadre. He disclosed that on learning of the incident, he had called up the outfit\u2019s headquarters and instructed the army authorities to take action against the accused. Atem further revealed that prior to the cease fire, cadres involved in assaulting the public was unheard of, in spite of stress and strain among the cadres. However, he said the scenario has changed after ceasefire, with all kinds of evil starting to move stealthily into the camp. He asserted that the culprit deserved exemplary punishment and there was no question of any justification by the accused. On handing over the accused to police, Atem said the matter would taken up with the collective leadership, bearing in mind that if the police took the accused to custody, then the lawyers will make money and have him released on bail. He further disclosed the culprit had used his superior officer\u2019s weapon and that the act itself had put the officer in trouble. He affirmed that the organization would not tolerate such action by remaining soft on this case. \u201cIf we cannot meet your deadline, please understand. It is not that we are conniving with the culprit to allow him to escape. We have also told the police, if you can catch him, do so. If we can, we\u2019ll also do the same. We\u2019re not sleeping on this case. We\u2019ll try our level best\u201d, assured Atem. <\/p>\n
