The Prime minister also asserted that “this is a unique opportunity for Nagas to resolve the political problem.” According to NPCC president S.I.Jamir, the Prime Minister said this when a delegation of the NPCC led by him and CLP led by Tokheho Yepthomi met Dr Singh in New Delhi on June 21. The NPCC and CLP delegation had apprised the Prime Minister on the need to resolve the Naga political problem within a time frame. The NPCC pointed out that it has been 35 years of stalemate on the Shillong Accord; 14 years of cease fire and negotiation without conclusion or open talk adding all these “do not make sense”. The combined delegation also met with CWC member and general secretary in-charge of Nagaland Luizinho Faleiro in Goa Niwas, Delhi on June 20. In the meeting, the NPCC executive committee resolution reaffirming the expulsion of I.Imkong MLA was submitted in response to the revocation order by Mr Faleiro against the expulsion of I.Imkong from the Congress. The NPCC delegates informed Faleiro that NPCC executive committee enjoys ‘functional autonomy’ unlike other Congress units in the country. Further, S.I.Jamir stated, the delegate also pointed out that Nagaland state was formed under the 16 Point Agreement with certain safeguard. Likewise, Faleiro was told, that the NPCC was born out of an agreement in 1976 between late Indira Gandhi then prime minister of India and a delegation of the then Naga Nationalist Organisation(NNO). NPCC also said it functioned under its own constitution in the spirit of “national in outlook and regional in content” as agreed upon. NPCC said the party has its own historical credit in pioneering the state till today for which the AICC was also aware. In the light of the divergence between it and Faleiro on Imkong’s explusion, the NPCC said when the safeguards were undermined by omission or commission, it was pressed to reiterate or defend them. NPCC further said that since I.Imkong is now “unattached member” of the assembly and “no more Congress CLP member” Faleiro’s “revocation is meaningless.” Taking a dig at Imkong, NPCC said since he was an old associate, party leaders did not wish to embarrass him “ as he has already his share of problems in his own village.” NPCC alleged, that in his rebuttal, Imkong “charged more than 15 Congress leaders of the state” and did not even spare “the chowkidar of Congress bhavan, thereby thoroughly exposing “his inner mind. NPCC said though it was an unpleasant to have taken the extreme step in expelling Imkong, “ it was better for all” since it would be impossible for Imkong “ to live confronting all senior leaders.”

For More Updates, follow us on and

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has said that the UPA government was “ready to go the extra mile” to resolve the Naga political issue and assured that “positive actions” in this regard would be taken at the earliest.
