{"id":106992,"date":"2012-06-25T00:29:03","date_gmt":"2012-06-25T00:29:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/2012\/06\/25\/state-government-rejects-jacwr-demand-for-advocate-generals-removal\/"},"modified":"2012-06-25T00:29:03","modified_gmt":"2012-06-25T00:29:03","slug":"state-government-rejects-jacwr-demand-for-advocate-generals-removal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2012\/06\/25\/state-government-rejects-jacwr-demand-for-advocate-generals-removal\/","title":{"rendered":"State government rejects JACWR demand for Advocate General\u2019s removal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\/old_site\/><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">State govt. stands solidly behind the advocate general &#8211; Chief Secretary &#8211;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In an unequivocal reaction to the recent war of words between Joint Action Committee on Women Reservation (JACWR) and Advocate General\u2019s office supported by those condemning the June 19 Guwahati incident, the state government has not only condemned JACWR\u2019s demand for the removal of the AG but also outrightly stated that it stood \u201csolidly\u201d behind him.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement issued by state chief secretary Lalthara Saturday, the state government said that it fully supported the AG who has been \u201csuccessfully fighting\u201d many court cases on behalf of Nagaland government. <\/p>\n<p>Stating that the AG enjoyed the full confidence of the state government, the chief secretary further went on to condemn the JACWR for demanding the AG\u2019s removal on \u201cfrivolous grounds\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>The statement, while condemning the June 19 incident, said that the AG K.N. Balagopal was \u201cverbally abused with choices invectives\u201d by some members of JACWR as he was coming out of the court room after conclusion of the day\u2019s hearing on women\u2019s reservation in state municipalities.<\/p>\n<p>It may be mentioned that JACWR had submitted representations demanding immediate removal of the AG and replacement with a senior Naga advocate before the next court hearing slated for June 27 to the state governor and the chief minister. <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #0099ff;\">Addl AGs\u2019 statement malicious: JACWR <\/span><br \/>\nJoint Action Committee on Women Reservation (JACWR) Sunday reiterated its stand and said it stood by \u201call the facts\u201d given in its statement that was published in local dailies on June 20. JACWR also termed the statement made by the two Additional Advocate Generals (Addl AGs) that was published on June 23 \u201cfalse and malicious\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, JACWR said that the committee has been silently observing the \u201cattack\u201d and \u201cfalse allegations\u201d on its members, Naga Mothers Association (NMA) and other apex women organizations by organizations like Naga Hoho, Naga Students\u2019 Federation, Dimapur Bar Association and the two Addl AGs.<\/p>\n<p>JACWR stated that the reactions to the \u201cabuse and threats\u201d on Naga women leaders outside the court on June 19 at Gauhati High Court by civil society organizations including lawyers not only question the integrity but also defamed and passed judgments on women instead of verifying facts about the incident. This has proved the \u201ccomplete biasness\u201d towards women. <\/p>\n<p>Categorically reiterating that JACWR stood by the facts it provided, the committee said that more than \u201cseventy lawyers were witness\u201d to the court proceedings and all the members of the women delegation were present in the court throughout the proceedings. <\/p>\n<p>Once again terming the allegation that some JACWR members misbehaved with the AG was \u201cfalse and defamatory\u201d, the committee reiterated that no apology was made by senior Counsel C. Gonsalves before the court nor an undertaking tendered as witnessed by two women representatives and lawyers from Human Rights Law Network, Guwahati, said that JACWR statement. <\/p>\n<p>Questioning the Addl AGs on such false statements, JACWR said they were not even \u201cwitness to the lady talking to the AG\u201d. <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #0099ff;\">JACWR reacts to DBA, NH, NSF statements <\/span><br \/>\nJACWR stated that the serious allegations made by Dimapur Bar Association (DBA) against some women members was \u201cindicative of their ignorance\u201d that the committee comprised of seven members representing apex women organizations and women leaders from NMA, NWHD, TWO and ENWO have been part of the delegation. <\/p>\n<p>Stating that JACWR members have attended 18 court hearings in Kohima and Guwahati on women reservation till date and they were fully conversant with procedures of the court, the committee reiterated that none of the seven JAC members had spoken to the AG, Nagaland on that \u201cfateful day when Naga women were abused and harassed\u201d.
