She told the new US edition of ELLE magazine: \u201cI think, if you can prove the existence of God, it can only be proven through love. I even had lost my faith for a while. I was becoming an agnostic.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd it was really hard, because I was always very religious, and for a few years, maybe because–it sounds so corny–I was not feeling the love like it was supposed to be, I started to think that there was no God. And suddenly I meet Gerard and the sun comes out.\u201d<\/p>\n
The \u2018Hips Don\u2019t Lie\u2019 singer believes the secret to their relationship is spending time apart to pursue their own passions, with Shakira juggling her music career and her judging role on \u2018The Voice\u2019 USA.<\/p>\n
She explained: \u201cHe has his own world and that\u2019s actually one of the healthiest things about the relationship. <\/p>\n
I know that he\u2019s the one person who is with me not because of any interest other than the love that unites us\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s nothing I can offer him beyond my womanhood – does that word exist in English?\u201d
\nShakira gave birth to her first child in January, a son called Milan, and she was surprised that motherhood was more difficult than she expected, claiming she is still adjusting to the big life change.<\/p>\n
She said: \u201cI\u2019m still trying to figure it out. And I have a feeling I will try to do the same for the rest of my life.<\/p>\n
